Tribute to Edith Piaf

Carolyn Burke has published three biographies, all to critical acclaim. After spending many years in Paris she was inspired by Piaf’s music to write No Regrets, which has been called "an eloquent embrace of the famed French singer-songwriter" (Publishers Weekly, starred review); "sympathetic . . . captivating . . . highly effective" (New York Review of Books); "masterful storytelling" (Library Journal); and listed among the best books of the year by the San Francisco Chronicle and the Sunday Times. Her book has been translated into many languages. Quite suitable since Edith Piaf touched many people.

Morgan, who also finds Paris a source of inspiration and has choreographed many ballets about Paris. His Nocturne and Bach Oboe Concertos, inspired by the Louvre, are only two examples from his classical répertoire: "every port de bras turns into a Fragonard of movement,” The New York Sun, “spirited classical ballet purity,” The New York Times.

Morgan’s first experience performing in Paris was with the Joffrey Ballet in the revival of Le Sacre du printemps, (The Rite of Spring) at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. He became an Artist-In-Residence, choreographing under served children of Colombes to dance to excerpts from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro for a presentation at UNESCO. His Place des Vosges inspired ballet, “Earthly Love, Heavenly Spirits,” with music by Tchaikovsky, was performed at the Theatre de l'Avant-Seine in Colombes and filmed by French Television Channel 3. He also danced a solo with the French International Gospel Festival, performed in The Didgeridoo Festival at Le Bataclan, producer Raphael Didjaman, actor Denis Lavant, and singer Sapho, and taught summer programs at the Centre de Danse du Marais.

Angelique Dessaint the recipient of the 2013 Grand Prix Edith Piaf Award,
is  now in production with Morgan and Burke. Ms. Dessaint received this award on the 50th anniversary of Edith Piaf's death. This award was presented by Charles Dumont, for the president of the Association of Edith Piaf, Bernard Marchois, also director of the Edith Piaf museum.
